Preparations Well Under Way at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium to Host 3rd Test between India and South Africa

12:35 2015

kohli menNew Delhi, Friday, November 20 – After a drawn match against South Africa at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Indian cricketers are at present getting all set for the next contest, which is to take place at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on November 24. Of course, rain played role of a villain in the longest format, stopping the playing XIs to play further.

Weather conditions were not too supportive in the previous Test, playing a spoilsport. When most of the Indian cities reeled under severe heat, incessant rainfall during this period in Bengaluru changed whole conditions. The intermittent downpour in the earlier competition lasted for a whole 4 days, giving no chance for match to restart.

Despite the fact that the pitch was safe from sudden rain, wet outfield created huge trouble. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja did a good job, taking quick wickets and compelling the opponents to take a backseat. Hero of the first Test, Jadeja, proved his comeback on Test side right.

Every captain wants to lead a team which follows his game plan and gives its best to attain victory at the end of the day. Confidence of right-arm off break bowler Ashwin is certainly high. Here is to mention that he is one of the bowlers who showed great improvement since World Cup 2015, letting everyone believe his bowling has got the edge. Now, hopes are surging from him and other bowling lineup in the rest of the Test matches.  Best combination picked by Indian skipper Virat Kohli will play pivotal role in motivating young men contribute as much as possible and help India to be close to victory, which is eyed for having a lead.

If discussion is made over batting skills then Shikhar Dhawan also showed a lot of improvement in the earlier Test. He tried not to play a shot that could have ended his innings early. Instead of making any mistake, he took time to settle on the crease and steal runs on weak deliveries bowled by South Africa. The approach is sufficient to demonstrate that he has started figuring out the difference between 50-50 over match and the Test encounters. No wonder if this talented player uses his experience and shows growth in upcoming match that are to begin next week.

Kohli’s right decision of asking his men to build pressure on Proteas gave his squad major reasons to flaunt a broad smile. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that his captaincy certainly put some pressure on the visitors, affecting their individual performances on Indian pitch. However, story might not be same in latter phases for the reason South Africa are tough contenders and it is always tough to beat them by a huge margin.

Some stupendous show from the tourists may change entire equation. Challenges are not going to be any less for Indian team as rivals are strong and prove their worthiness in the team when needed. Their performances in ODI and 20-20 over matches are enough to tell what kind of show can be put forward when its required to be the best in all aspects.

Since just a few days is left for the match to begin, attention of the cricketers of both teams will be to spend time in the nets and get a bit used to weather conditions. South Africa could not afford losing against the Men in Blue now as this would give Kohli-led side they lead what they look forward to at present. Winning was imperative for India after getting thrashed by South Africa in other formats. If truth be told then it was the question of prestige. The way opening Test was won by them is commendable. However, since nothing can be predicted accurately in this sport as a few deliveries, some unutterable shots and outstanding fielding can make the entire difference, focus of India and Proteas must be on utilizing the potential.

The support for the home side is likely to be immense, which is to indirectly increase pressure on South Africa, who must be keen to wind up series and keep their heads held high before going back home. Facing more defeats than the number of wins during Proteas tour of India has probably made the host do better and give no room to the opponents to feel the ease in gaining foothold. Every fan is mulling over the strategies opted by both the teams that will be implemented to stay a step ahead of each other in different departments. Team selection will impart crucial character, of course. Nonetheless, playing as unit will be of higher significance too.
