Pakistan Eye Winding Up Series against West Indies on Remarkable Note

holderNew Delhi, Wednesday, November 2 – It is always special to be outstanding against a team that is equally good in cricket as their opponents. The final Test between Pakistan and West Indies at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in Sharjah is the last game between these two nations on their tour of UAE this year. West Indies fans were disappointed to a great extent after the team lost both T20 and ODI series at the hands of Pakistan.

Since they being on the back foot for most of the time post landing in the United Arab Emirates, the rivals now look forward to sealing Test series 3-0. A complete West Indies whitewash will be a major achievement, injecting confidence for strong performances ahead. The play of two days remains at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in Sharjah. What West Indies could do to play for pride is to not let go the match in the grip of Pakistan, who must be on cloud nine by putting forward some good show in the recent time, winning the two Tests already, three 20-20 matches and same number of ODIs.

They kicked off the tournament by pocketing a victory and carried on the same momentum ahead. West Indies did not bounce back from tough situation, carrying on losing the matches one after the other with different margins of wickets and runs. West Indies would expect to let Pakistan feel some pressure and end the contest on a winning note, what they have been waiting since long. In the ongoing Test that started October 30, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first. Their Playing XI included Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Sami Aslam, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq – the captain, Sarfraz Ahmed, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz and Zulfiqar Babar. Those in extras are Babar Azam, Sohail Khan, Rahat Ali and Imran Khan.

West Indies team has Kraigg Brathwaite, Leon Johnson, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich, Darren Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Jermaine Blackwood, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Shannon Gabriel and Devendra Bishoo. Those to sit on bench are Carlos Brathwaite, Miguel Cummins, Shai Hope and Jomel Warrican. Pakistan first innings ended at a total of 281 runs in 90.5 overs. Half-centuries from Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfarz and 74 runs from opener Sami are the highlights. The rivals started facing the first jolt early when Leon Johnson was lbw by Riaz at a score of 1. But Kraigg Brathwaite was in different mood and was not out at a score of 142 (4 x 11). Darren Bravo was dismissed by Babar on 11 runs, with a couple of boundaries.

Marlon Samuels was out in the same manner but by Yasir Shah on a naught. Jermaine Blackwood was dismissed by Amir at a score of 23 (4 x 4). Roston Chase was impressive, getting a fifty, together with six boundaries and a biggie. Amir earned his wicket. Shane Dowrich – the wicketkeeper lost his wicket to Riaz at a score of 47 (4 x 5 and 6 x 1). Jason Holder succumbed to Amir at a score of 16 in 30 balls, together with three boundaries. Devendra Bishoo was sent back to the dressing room by Riaz when playing at an individual total of 27 (4 x 2). Alzarri Joseph was dismissed by the same man at 6 runs (4 x 1). Shannon Gabriel’s wicket also went into the hands of Riaz when he was trying to open his account. West Indies scored 337 runs, getting success to take feeble lead.

Pakistan now want to accumulate that much amount of runs that can be defended. But that may not be as easy as it may sound since Sami Aslam lost his wicket to Holder post playing an innings of 17 runs, with a boundary. Azhar Ali is batting at 45 runs (4 x 3 and 6 x 1). Both Asad Shafiq and Younis Khan have been dismissed by Holder on a naught, while Pakistan skipper is out after hitting a boundary post failing to read a delivery by Roston Chase. Sarfraz Ahmed is batting at 29 runs. His innings comprised four 4s. After 41 overs, 97 runs have been scored with two extras. Four wickets have been lost. Pakistan players want to weave partnerships to get strong so that the dream on ending the tour of UAE can be turned true. If bowling change does a trick at different time intervals then there could be problem for them.

West Indies supporters are sure that something amazing their side may be able to achieve if grip isn’t loosened. Confident show is the need of time to be a step ahead of Pakistan, who maintained good form in the recent period. Mohammad Nawaz, Yasir Shah, Amir, Riaz and Babar are yet to bat. They need to not let the opportunity of ending the match and series on a wonderful way slip away easily. But that is not going to be easy since no big partnership has been built so far.  What target is to be set by Pakistan will be a key thing to observe. Taking catches on time may add to troubles for Pakistan from this point onward. West Indies can spread water on the dream of Pakistan by trying their level best. This way, the pressure can be shrugged off too. Lead got to be ample if Pakistan think of crushing West Indies but what’s going to come in way will get clear in the latter part.
