spicesnNew Delhi, Tuesday, March 29 – It is a general idea in mind that spices are not healthy. It is true but only to a certain extent. A recent study says that limited use of spices not only adds to distinct flavor in cuisines but is also healthy.

It is not necessary that these shall always be included with oil to avail the benefits while cooking. A tablespoon of fenugreek seeds with half-glass of water helps people improve their digestion. When combined with asafetida, it results even better. There are more than a few other ingredients that work as digestive aid.

To avail health benefits in a short span of time, intake of mustard & cumin seeds, nutmeg powder, turmeric, black pepper, coriander seeds, dried ginger powder, cloves, peppercorns, cardamom and star must be included in the diet in different forms. Besides these kitchen essentials, use of thymes, sage, rosemary, caraway, coriander leaves, fresh chili and bay leaves are healthful when incorporated in small amount in dry or curry vegetables.

To enhance normal tasting dish, these should be used in a variety legumes to give a lip-smacking touch, increasing both the flavor and nutritional quotient. Cilantro that is easily available in market is an ideal source of dietary fiber, magnesium, manganese and iron as well. More to the point, its leaves are loaded with protein, Vitamin C and Vitamin K. Rosemary, on the other hand, adds fragrance to prepared dishes.

Tulsi is highly useful when it comes to maintaining oral hygiene, providing relief from respiratory issues, lowering down body temperature, treating asthma & lung disorders and keeping stress away. It is considered one of the most excellent medicinal herbs to keep seasonal issues at bay. A slight sprinkle of carom seeds in a variety of chapattis beat indigestion. It is good for lactating mothers. When used in paste form over the joints, it removes the pain.
