jadeja1New Delhi, Wednesday, December 21 – Nothing is impossible and can be accurately predicted in cricket. This got proved on Day 5 of the Chennai Test, which made people experience the real joy of Test cricket. In the age of limited over games, Indian cricket team spellbound their fans in the longest format of cricket.

Mesmerizing performances of the hosts was eyed as India hunted for 10 wickets on the final day of fifth Test as England openers came to bat. Even though India sealed series by winning the third Test that held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, a whitewash was expected keeping in mind good form of Indian players and their zeal to attain something that is remembered for long time.

Cricket lovers appeared in impressive numbers to witness the action on field despite knowing the fact that it is not going to be easy at all for India team to get close to victory when none of the England batsman lost his wicket. England opening batsmen Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings ended 1st session by spending time on crease, giving India an indication of not succumbing to pressure. When play on 5th day began, Cook started to bat from 3 runs onwards and Jennings from 9 runs. The two put together 103 runs on the scoreboard. However, scenario changed rapidly after second session began.

Jadeja’s bowling surprised England captain, who was batting at 49 runs at that point of time, hitting four 4s. Jadeja did not let England recover from the unexpected jolt and dismissed set batsman Keaton Jennings, who played an innings of 54 runs in 121 balls, with the help of seven boundaries. The series of shock did not stop as Joe Root was lbw by Jadeja – the left-arm orthodox bowler. Root could only score 6 runs facing 22 deliveries. Moeen Ali, on the other hand, tried his bit to shrug off pressure but wicket of Jonny Bairstow by Ishant on a single thanks to a brilliant catch by Jadeja only added to the trouble for England.

Ben Stokes and Ali made sure to be on the pitch and not give India what was needed to enjoy another win. 63-run partnership between these two middle-order batsmen worried the Indian camp to a certain extent but worries vanished when Ashwin was the man to take a good catch in Jadeja’s over, sending Ali back to pavilion post scoring 44 runs (4 x 4). Ben Stokes was the next man out by Jadeja, leaving him in state of surprise. Stokes was dismissed at 23 runs (4 x 4). Liam Dawson was out for a duck by Mishra. Adil Rashid lost his wicket to Umesh at 2 runs, Stuart Broad also lost wicket to Jadeja at 1 run. A brilliant catch by Nair in the slip in Jadeja’s over made Jake Ball lost his wicket. Jos Buttler was not out at 6 runs. India won by an innings and 75 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
