People All Set to Bid Adieu to 2014 and Welcome New Year 2015

2015New Delhi, Wednesday, December 31 – Less than 24 hours remains for New Year to arrive. Last day of 2014 is here. The year will be remembered for several good as well as unpleasant incidents. The inhabitants saw massive change as soon as Narendra Modi government took the Centre stage.

A quick look over happenings of 2014 :-

•    1st Anniversary of Uttarakhand Tragedy: –

One of the most tragic incidents took place in Uttarakhand on the horrendous night of June 16-17 since nature demonstrated its destroying face. Several young and elderly people lost their lives by reason of uncontrollable and devastating floods and landslides in the zone. If official figures are to be trusted then almost 5,700 breathed their last and many inhabitants gone missing. More than 350 homes were completely destroyed. Residents residing in 4,200 villages were badly affected. Those who lost their loved ones in Uttarakhand tragedy remembered them with teary eyes on its 1st anniversary.

•    Rise of BJP-led NDA : –

Modi Magic made Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance take the ‘Centre Stage’. The saffron party led the chart of poll results with huge margin. The way BJP performed under the guidance of Narendra Modi will be remembered for generations to come as the party crossed the magical figure of 272 in next to no time on the day of election outcome. A clean sweep in the national capital was one of the major achievements.
In the largest festival of democracy, Modi and his cabinet got immense support from the voters, who cast their votes to let BJP witness terrific success.

•    Petrol and Diesel Prices Plunge : –

Daily commuters using bikes, cars and other vehicles for commuting from one place to other every day were delighted to see considerable drop in the rates of petrol and diesel especially in the second half of 2014. Fuel prices were cut significantly in the final quarter, making people heave a sigh of relief and believe that ‘good days have actually arrived’. Delhiites are paying Rs 61.33 and Rs 50.51 for petrol and diesel, respectively, these days. Drop in cost of fuel spurred populace to spend sums to purchase 4 and 2-wheelers.

•    Tomato Disturbed Household Budget : –

Skyrocketing costs of common kitchen staple from July to August made people shell out hefty sums. Prices of tomato, which was sold at Rs 25 to Rs 35 per kg in the retail markets, all of a sudden jumped to Rs 70 to Rs 90. The unexpected rise was attributed to less stock of the veggie, disturbing household budgets. People compromised on the quantity and taste for almost a month. Venders in Patna, Guwahati, Mumbai, New Delhi, national capital regions, Chennai, Kanpur and Lucknow blamed less production of tomato due to inadequate rainfall.

The keenly awaited Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were launched in various countries, catching the eye of technology lovers. Amazing aspects for instance Siri natural language commands and dictation, active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, AirDrop file sharing, iCloud cloud service, iCloud Keychain, TV-out menu, Maps, Twitter and Facebook integration and iBooks PDF reader let these Apple tools stand out amid others handsets that were launched under the brand name of Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, BlackBerry etc.

•    Crime against Women Shoot Up : –

Rape by Uber cab driver appalled the country once again. A 25-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in a car, which she boarded to reach safely at her home. Despite a court proclaimed quantum of punishment and sentenced accused of 2012 Delhi rape case to death last year, no drop in molestation and harassment is seen. Cab driver was arrested soon as the cops poured terrific input to send him behind the bars.

•    Captain Cool Dhoni Retires from Test : –

Mahendra Singh Dhoni who took India at no. 1 position in Test cricket proclaimed retirement from Test format after ending the Melbourne match in a draw. His decision took cricket fans by surprise. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar congratulated him for captaining India so well for almost 9 years.
